What is Hibiscus?
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, the red gurhal flower grown in gardens across Pakistan, has long been ground into hair packs and herbal washes. The flowers and leaves contain mucilage — a natural slippery substance — that coats hair and makes it easier to comb.
What does Hibiscus do for hair?
- Conditions hair so it feels softer and smoother
- Makes wet hair easier to detangle
- Adds natural shine to dull hair
- A gentle addition to herbal washes and hair packs
What does the research say?
Small animal and laboratory studies have looked at hibiscus leaf extract and hair growth, but there are no good human trials. Treat it as a conditioning herb, not a treatment.
How do you use Hibiscus on hair?
- Find it in OrganicCare Herbal Hair Shampoo and Herbal Hair Oil.
- For a home pack, blend a few fresh petals and leaves with water or yoghurt.
- Apply to the scalp and lengths for 20–30 minutes, then rinse well.
Who should be careful?
- Fresh red petals can tint very light or bleached hair slightly — test on a hidden strand.
- Patch test any home pack on your inner arm first.
