What is Amla?
Amla is a small, sour green fruit. Dried amla is soaked or infused in sesame or coconut oil for traditional hair oils, and powdered amla is mixed with reetha and shikakai as a herbal wash.
What does Amla do for hair?
- Adds natural shine and softness
- Helps strengthen hair and reduce breakage
- Traditional part of care routines for early greying
- Gentle enough for the whole family
What does the research say?
Amla is rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and polyphenols. Clinical studies on hair are limited; its reputation comes mostly from long traditional use.
How do you use Amla on hair?
- Warm amla oil slightly and massage into the scalp for 5–10 minutes.
- Comb the rest through to the ends.
- Leave for 2 hours or overnight, then wash with a herbal shampoo.
- Use weekly, or 2 times a week for dry hair.
Who should be careful?
- Amla powder masks can dry the hair if left too long — follow with oil or conditioner.
